If you’re not enrolled at least half time for any term, you must request a leave of absence from the Cal Grant program. A leave of absence may be requested by calling toll free 888-CA-GRANT (888-224-7268) or going to WebGrants for Students. You may also complete the Grant Record Change Form for Students. You can also ask your school's financial aid office for a copy.
In addition, you may ask your school to report a leave of absence on your behalf. Keep in mind that it’s your responsibility to make sure that the Commission has been informed of your leave.
Total leave time away from the Cal Grant program may not be more than one academic year, as defined by your school. Extensions may be granted for exceptional situations on an appeal basis only.
If you’re on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or Coast Guard, you may have your Cal Grant deferred for up to three years. Simply fill out a Deferment Request Form or write to:
