How do I apply for a Cal Grant?

To apply, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA), and your verified Cal Grant GPA by the March 2 Cal Grant application deadline.

  1. The easiest and fastest way is by applying online using FAFSA on the Web. or the California Dream Act Application homepage. If you don’t have access to a computer, you may call toll free 800.433.3243 to have a paper FAFSA mailed to you. If you’ll be mailing the paper FAFSA or CADAA, get a certificate of mailing as proof that you submitted your FAFSA or CADAA by the March 2 deadline

  3. Your verified Cal Grant GPA. Check with your school to see if it will submit your GPA for you or whether you’ll need to submit it using the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. If you need to submit your GPA, you can pick up the form at your school or find the GPA Verification Form online.The GPA verification form must be certified by your school and returned to the Commission no later than March 2.
